Game Background: There's a summary for in-game happenings here, and graveyard happenings here.

Unsurprisingly, Sayaka grew extremely and quickly in Hunter's Game; being alive for 11 days in a hellhole would do that. Sayaka was once a peppy little lady who couldn't do any wrong on the surface, but was willing to do anything for the sake of her career below that. Hunter's Game, to put it simply, narrowed that range of 'anything' pretty nicely.

Throughout the game itself, Sayaka was usually rather quiet and kept her head low; she didn't want to take center stage after seeing some of the violent deaths that played out. She served a passive role throughout her stay in the pass...or at least on the surface, she was perfectly passive. In-game, she had a role meant to help the prey known as the Defender. It allowed her to give out one gun a night to someone; she wouldn't know their role, and they wouldnt know her name. She was a peddler of the worst kind, even if most of her guns simply went to fellow Hope's Peak students.

Truth be told, she was probably the worst mafia player in the world; gave out her role to Kyouko Kirigiri on the fourth day after the girl made assurances that she wouldn't be alone. When Kirigiri was converted to a wolf, she was basically a peddler on for the Hunters side and used almost effortlessly by them. Not to even mention the fact that she was the catalyst for Day 11. (Which, basically, was one giant shoot out.)

She's seen many of her fellow classmates die--by the time she died on night 11, she'd seen Naegi die (and even voted for him once he told them he was the convert), Asahina and Togami burned alive, and found out that Kirigiri had been shot. Each of those deaths in particular weighed heavily on her--Naegi's and Kirigiri's the most.

During days 8 - 11, she was relatively involved with several prey who'd were attempting to get rid of the Hunters as quickly as possible--night 10 was where she'd met them all and became rather active in their plans by giving them information and arming them. Which, once again, lead to day 11.

She, like most people who died in the game, became a ghost after she died. Ghost were mostly observers, but they were also able to make sacrifices in order to help the people stuck in the pass. Sayaka's role in that wasn't much, but she did give up her ability to sing in order to bring Lithuania (who had shot Hanekoma on Day 11) back--she considered it a worthwhile sacrifice as she thought she wouldn't come back to life. She didn't do much else except react poorly to the prey's decisions during the last two days of the game.

When the final hunter died and it was clear only the Hunters would be brought back, Sayaka accepted it sadly, but calmly at the same time. In a way, she felt she deserved it for what she was about to do back at Hope's Peak--she was stunned to finally be brought back to life and it brought her genuine joy for the first time in a while. She said goodbye to a few of her friends before leaving with Mondo and Robin back to Ylisse after the offer was made.

Sayaka took on a bit of a pragmatic role in the game, but she was still scarred by her experiences--she fears death more than anything now, and seeing all of those bodies freaked her out to the point that she'd never want to see one ever again. She blames herself in part for a few deaths in the game, and she's let herself go quite a bit. She's certainly not perfect when push comes to shove anymore--she's still herself at her heart, but in many ways, she's let go.
Personality: Sayaka Maizono is the kind of girl you'd expect to see sometime in your life. She's an outgoing person, first and foremost; she can talk to just about anyone easily and has a completely pleasant demeanor. She's light-hearted, smiles easily, and people often leave a conversation with her on a good note. Never too harsh, nor too demanding, but also no simple doormat. She's a perfect balance of what people might believe a girl should be; kind but firm, fun but serious. She may simply be perfect in some people's eye; she's the sweet young lady with a bright future ahead of her because anything less would be just tragic.

They'd be surprised to find that a lot of that is simply a facade.

Sayaka acts the way she feels she should act, for the most part. She's nice because it's expected of her to be so, and she goes with expectancies. She can't let herself slip up for even a moment; what if she said something wrong? She doesn't want to think of what the consequences would be--she follows up every slip with an almost instant shift back to a smile. In her mind, if you smile, no one will question you further about previous troubles--if nothing else, it seemed to work well against her classmates. She's a house of red china just waiting for a bull to bring it all down.

More than anything else, Sayaka struggles with wanting to be noticed and adored; her father was rarely around when she was young, which caused her to latch onto the world of idols. She achieved her dream through blood, sweat, tears, and more terrible things when needed--Sayaka's dream is quite literally her world. She certainly is willing to do anything to protect that dream at all costs, even if the cost may very well be terrible. Not that anyone should know this, in her mind--she doesn't want to lose their approval, after all! She would never want anyone to know that, lest she be seen as a terrible person for what she'd be willing to do. She literally thrives on staying in people's good grace.

What was she willing to do to achieve her dream? Well, the plot of Dangan Ronpa revolves around a bear known as Monobear trapping her and fourteen other students of various talents within the school they've been meaning to go to. The bear says that the only way to get out is by murdering someone else and getting away with it. To her credit, Sayaka didn't simply jump at the chance to murder the first chance she got--it wasn't until a motive DVD showing her idol friends unconscious or even dead on the ground without her that she plotted murder. In her eyes, it was the only option now; she thought up a plan nearly on the spot and was willing to set it into motion just as quickly. She certainly wouldn't have done it if the circumstances were different, but with things as they were? She was willing to accept it as the only option.

...Yeah, to say her moral compass took a nosedive the very second her dream was threatened would be a rather extreme understatement. Her dream really is that important to her, which can lead her to make impulsive, rash decisions. Said plot for murder wound up taking a turn south when her intended victim forced her to hide, and then came into where she was hiding to finish the job she'd started. She may be able to plan on her feet if needed, but that isn't to say that she's flawless at it; the whole picture doesn't come into play until it's too late.

Despite a good portion of her personality being a facade, it isn't to say that the kindness she displays isn'r genuine. She may struggle with her need for attention and this could very well be some way she tries to cope with it, but when her dream isn't at stake? Sayaka is probably one of the sweetest people on the planet, and she gets genuine pleasure our of being nice to others. She's still a teenaged girl at heart, not a cold blooded sociopath. Even with the experiences of Hope's Peak and Prayer's Pass behind her, she has still managed to hang onto her kindness.

Lets just pray that she doesn't crack further.
Abilities: Sayaka is known as a Super High School Level Idol Singer--with this comes the talents of beig able to sing and dance very well. She's a little stronger than she looks, but that's about all she's got going for her.
